Purple Fluorescent Frogs are small-sized toads, measuring approximately 2 to 4 cm in length. These frogs have always been a point of discussion for their striking combination of lustrous black and purple, with intricate patterns, and their species.

Some scientists considered them a subspecies of the Pebas Stubfoot Toad while others argued them to be a subspecies of Cayenne Stubfoot Toad. Well apart from this debate, they are certainly cute. However, the IUCN has not assessed the species as they don’t believe it to be a separate species, but their population is declining rapidly. In the past years, deforestation, gold mining, and diseases have been the main causes of their population decline.
