Witnessing your dog getting hit by a car is a truly terrifying experience. Such a heart-wrenching incident happened with a veterinarian when he was loading his dogs into his care and a service dog spooked and ran into the road. Let’s know the whole story.

Keith Gilbert is an 81-year-old disabled veteran who owns many dogs. One day, he was transporting his new service dog Rivka, also called ‘Mouse’, and got frightened and ran into the road. Unfortunately, the German Shepherd was hit by a car passing by. Keith’s heart thumped after seeing his dog lying in the middle of the road in such a state. Keith Gilbert and his daughter Denise rushed over to her as she was lying lifeless on the road. After looking at her, they were worried that her back must have been broken.

Fortunately, Natalie Luke and David Crump were passing through the way and watched the accident. They saw how the car hit Rivka and left her in pain, so they immediately came to her aid. Luke also explained that it is really terrifying for any owner to see his dog get hit by a car. He is a dog lover so he pulled over quickly to help.

Even though it was a tough situation, they came up with an idea. They used a special cover from Luke’s car to create a kind of bed for Rivka. This helped them to move Rivka carefully away from the busy and bustling road. They also used a kit with basic medical supplies to start taking care of Rivka’s injuries.

Soon after, two firefighters named Aidan Casey and Bobby Foster from Seattle Fire Station 33 arrived at the location. They saw what Keith and Luke were doing and decided to help. They had more tools and knowledge to treat Rivka’s injuries properly. The firefighters were really impressed with how Keith, Luke, and the neighbors worked together to help Rivka.

The firefighters said, “They did a great job of keeping the dog safe and getting her out of the road.” Finally, Keith took Rivka to a special animal hospital called Blue Pearl Veterinary Hospital. The doctors there did a wonderful job, and amazingly, Rivka’s back was not broken from the accident. Following the right steps probably helped make sure she didn’t hurt her spine.

Once Rivka was better, Keith brought her to visit the firefighters at Station 33. Everyone was really happy to see Rivka doing well. Both Rivka and Keith were very grateful to these kind people who helped them come together again. Keith is a veteran who served his country and is also fighting cancer for the fifth time. He shared with the news that he couldn’t even imagine how much harder life would be without his special service dog, Rivka.

However, taking care of Rivka’s medical needs is costing a lot of money. There’s a page on a website called GoFundMe where people can donate money to help out. The goal is to collect $2,000 to cover Rivka’s medical expenses. If you’d like to help a good dog and a veteran who loves her, you can contribute to the fundraiser!
