Meet “Lucky Blue”: One-In-Two Million Bright Blue Lobster Caught By Maine Fisherman

A father and son fishing in Maine made headlines after capturing a “Rare Blue Lobster”. After looking at the pictures of this bright blue lobster, many biologists said that it is rare and occurs in one-in-two million sea discoveries. They named the crustacean “Lucky Blue”.

Becky Rand, the father, said that the Lucky Blue was caught in the ocean beyond Peaks Island off the coast of the Southeast portion of the state. Becky Rand is the father of Luke Rand who caught the lobster last week. Luke Rand is a sternman on his father’s boat and has been fishing for 8 years while Becky Rand has been fishing for more than 60 years.

Luke’s family lives in Falmouth, a small town north of Portland. Audrey B Rand, the mother of Luke, told USA Today that this is not the first time when her son caught a rare lobster. He had also caught rare calico and orange lobsters over the years.

Luke expressed that he had never thought that he would get something like this, especially this bright blue-colored lobster. 

Audrey also stated that her son has been lobstering instead of fishing, and he loves to catch rare species although throws them back into the water. She also said that the blue lobster was certainly a legal-sized male and healthy crustacean and added whether it is male or female, they have to throw it back.

As it was rare or one-in-two million hence they decided to keep the lobster on display at the waterfront restaurant of Audrey, for two weeks. Audrey told USA Today, “We’re throwing it back in two weeks”. But for now, they would keep it at an aquarium so that people could see the fascinating creatures of the vast ocean ecosystem.
