Homeless Dog Sleeping With An Abandoned Teddy Bear

You may have seen a lot of kids and even young ones adoring and playing with their teddies. But today’s story is about a homeless dog clinging to a broken teddy bear and sleeping with it. 

An abandoned teddy bear was used as a pillow by the stray dog as he dozed off on the sidewalk.

The photographer, Yvette Holzbach, posted this image with the caption, “Here is a stray dog finding comfort in a broken-down, abandoned toy. A large number of dogs do the same thing.

A lot of people were deeply touched by this sad image and they all were very curious to know what had happened to the poor dog. Due to this, the picture went viral instantly. Many people showed their concern about why Yvette didn’t save the dog rather than just capturing him and leaving.

Well, Yvette is a true rescuer, and she spends most of her time rescuing abandoned dogs in one of Houston Texas’s poorest neighborhoods while working for a group named Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward.

There are a large number of stray dogs on the streets, which is difficult for Yvette and her coworkers to handle. So, Yvette posted the following response to everyone who trolled her in the comments on Facebook. 

She said on the website for Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward that she and her team may feed up to 50 stray dogs on one feeding routine. Furthermore, she says that they are fortunate if they could rescue any dog of those 50 because there are not enough foster homes to keep these dogs into. She requests everyone to not criticize her team because the group she belongs to, doing the best with the resources they have with themselves.

She also admitted that it is really hard to leave dogs like him behind. 

The dog with the broken teddy, in the photo, was later revealed to be one of those dogs that local homeowner Mr. Calvin had been feeding.

Yvette said that the 87-year-old had taken many dogs off the street over the years, and at one point he had almost 20 dogs in his backyards.

She wrote that by posting the picture on Facebook, attention to the plight of stray dogs sparked. She also expressed her feelings and said “we know that our fight is uphill, but we can only dream of the day when no dog will have to struggle to survive on the streets.”

Yvette updated this heart-touching story last year with the sad news that animal hero Mr. Calvin Passed away in 2018. 

We are thankful to Yvette and her team for their kindness and care toward these dogs.
