Meet Harley, a Goldendoodle dog, who is 6 years old, and being hailed a hero after saving a baby deer from drowning near his home in Virginia. Ralph Dorn, Harley’s owner said: “Not sure how the fawn got out there, but Harley didn’t ask why, he jumped into action.”

Ralph posted the rescue photos on Facebook and they have gone viral.

Ralph Dorn is a retired Marine Corps pilot who lives in Virginia. He is the owner of a Goldendoodle dog named Harley. A few days ago, Ralph and Harley were outside at the lake near their home, and suddenly Harley vanished. Ralph started finding his dog, but he couldn’t find him anywhere. Then, he saw Harley in the middle of the lake, paddling himself out. 

When he came closer, Ralph realized that Harley was not alone and came to know the reason why Harley went into the water. There was a baby deer, who was struggling to get back to the shore. Harley had gone to rescue it.

Harley guided the little fawn on how to get back to dry land. Ralph says that he is so proud of his heroic dog because of saving his life. Even after coming back to the shore, Harley kept protecting the fawn until his mother came back for him. He kept interacting with the fawn and licking it. After some time, the deer’s mom came back for it.

The next morning Ralph and his wife Patricia were drinking coffee, and they saw something amiss. Ralph said that Harley got restless and was running window to window hastily. He opened the front door and Harley ran into the tree line. They could hear the bleating of fawn. 

Harley found the fawn in the tree line and we could imagine how lovely the scene was. The little fawn stopped bleating and wagging its tail. Both of them touched their noses and sniffed each other, and Harley came calmly back to the house with me.

I think it was the perfect reunion as if the little deer was thanking Harley to save its life. The fawn then walked off with its mother again. 

Ralph said this heart-touching story of Harley and the fawn has gone viral on Facebook. His Facebook post recounting the story has been shared over 253,000 times. Harley’s story has inspired so many people but this act of heroism is not surprising for Ralph.

Furthermore, Ralph says that Harley is a therapy dog who has worked with children and aged people as well. “We could tell right away, even as a puppy, he had such a good heart. He has always been like that with children and animals. He loves them all.”
