A few days back, a major conflict took place in Nxai Pan National Park, Botswana, where a brave male elephant fought off a fierce lion to defend his family from danger. Mr. Hrbacek said that the young elephant came up to the waterhole for drinking water and there was a pride of lion lying on the ground. The male lion perceived the elephant as a potential threat to himself and his family, so he tried to chase him away. The male lion was a part of the pride consisting of two adult males, four adult females, and some cubs. They all came together and scattered around when the male lion was trying to chase the elephant. This incident suggests that both animals were concerned for the safety of their respective families. The pictures depict how the pride collectively attacked the elephant, yet the elephant successfully drove the lion away from his vicinity.

However, neither animal was hurt but it shows the vulnerability of animals because of predators. Mr. Hrbacek said that he was pleasantly surprised to witness the battle. He also stated he had never seen this kind of confrontation before, and it was the right time and the right place to feel living inside the natural world.
