A Blind Dog’s Journey: 8 Years In Chains To A Cozy Bed Of Happiness

This story is about a blind dog Steve, who was rescued after 8 years in chains, and given a second chance at life. Steve was rescued from a backyard of a home in South Carolina, where he had been chained for eight years. There was another named Wonder who was also chained with him. Steve was raised by the Lancaster County SPCA, which collaborates with New York’s Diamonds and other rescue organizations. When the Diamonds received information about Steve, they felt compelled to adopt him and include him in their family of rescue animals.

When Steve arrived at Diamonds, he was suffering severely. He had fleas, worms, and lost fur. Vets examined him and explained that he had an old cob lodged in his intestines, and the only solution was surgical removal. Steve’s foster mother, Erin Boyd, told The Dodo that he was sleeping all the way to the rescue home and occasionally growled and barked in his crate. He was just trying to defend himself. She also said that when they arrived at their residence, Steve refused to leave his crate.

As Steve was recovering from every passing day, he began to come out of his shell. It didn’t take him long to transform into a big mush dog. His foster family also adored his very first moves, such as sleeping on his own bed for the first time. Steve liked his soft fluffy bed very much and expressed his joy by jumping frequently. Boyd said that Steve often shows his happiness by jumping here and there, and occasionally chews toys for a short period of time.

Boyd’s eyes sparkled with excitement as he said, “He is so intelligent!” It was truly marvelous how quickly Steve had mastered the structure of Boyd’s residence. From the backyard to the garage and up the three stairs to the house, Steve navigated everything with ease. He could access every part of the house.

In addition to his intelligence, Steve showed a loving side. He loved cuddling, going for walks, and indulging in squeaky toys. Most endearing of all were his snuggles and gentle kisses, which won over the hearts of everyone in the house.

However, Steve’s past had been tough for Steve, but now he was looking for a new family to spend the rest of his life peacefully with love. Boyd hoped to find a local family that could adore Steve’s uniqueness and offer him the love and affection he so deserved.
